Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Grounds, the groundskeeper performs a variety of tasks necessary to achieve a pleasant and functional outdoor campus. Also maintains and repairs all landscaping and grounds equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Performs grounds maintenance activities including cultivating, planting, watering, fertilizing, weeding, mowing and/or pruning lawn, gardens, shrubs and trees.
  • Assists with the maintenance of outdoor fields and athletic facilities to include marking out boundaries before events.
  • Plants shrubs, trees, flowers, and vegetation following detailed plans and directions.
  • Removes dirt, trash and debris from assigned areas and transports same to appropriate disposal facility.
  • Performs removal of snow and ice from assigned areas using hand and power snow removal equipment. Spreads salt, sand, and deicers to prevent slipping.
  • Operates hand and power equipment such as mowers, tillers, sweepers, snow blowers, edgers, shovels, and small vehicles including tractors. Performs routine assembly, cleaning and maintenance of equipment as needed.
  • Measures, mixes, and applies fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemicals following specific instructions.
  • Ability to perform physical work requiring bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting; to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Mandatory overtime required during inclement weather or for special events.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Follows workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the School's discretion.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform work in, on, around, under and over trees, shrubs, and buildings and facilities.
  • High level of self-motivation and proven ability to work with little supervision.
  • Ability to work additional hours when needed.

Other Information

  • A criminal history and background check is required and must be successfully completed.
  • A motor vehicle record check will be performed to determine the ability to drive school-owned vehicles.
  • Tasks are regularly performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as strong odors, fumes, dusts, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, and toxic/poisonous agents.
  • Works in varied and extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
