JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Maintenance Technician performs a variety of general maintenance and repairs to ensure building systems operate efficiently and the buildings remain in good physical condition.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Electrical
- Ability and knowledge to work with 115-volt, 230-volt, 277-volt, 460-volt and 480-volt circuits.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical breakdowns.
Plumbing
- Repair and install plumbing fixtures.
- Operate a power drain opening cable machine.
- Ability to sweat copper fittings, thread steel pipe and glue PCV pipe.
- Ability to run gas pipe, boiler pipe, domestic water pipe, drain and waste pipe and cast-iron pipe.
- Clean and treat chemical traps, grease traps, and clay traps.
Carpentry
- Basic framing skills using wood or steel studs.
- Drywall installation & repair. Ability to neatly tape, mud, and paint.
- Repair damaged wood furniture and fixtures.
- Install classroom fixtures; boards, storage bins, and display cases
- Install or repair interior ceilings & floor coverings,
- Repair various exterior roof surfaces and broken glass with basic skills in cutting and glazing.
Mechanical
- Install or repair mechanical fixtures: gear boxes, shafts, pumps, and fans.
- Install or repair equipment used in housekeeping, kitchens, grounds, maintenance departments, and administrative offices.
General Duties
- Daily opening of campus buildings.
- Perform housekeeping duties as needed in the divisions.
- Clean all gutters and downspouts.
- Assist with special events, set-up, visitor shuttle, and teardown.
- Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the School’s discretion.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED and three years of experience directly related to the essential functions required. Experience in an educational facility is a plus.
- Mechanical aptitude, ability to use shop mathematics and manual dexterity required.
- Ability to apply quality and safety standards.
- Ability to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment or machinery.
- Ability to work at heights up to 35 feet.
- High level of self-motivation and proven ability to work with little supervision
OTHER INFORMATION
- A criminal history and background check is required and must be successfully completed.
- Full-Time, twelve-month position with benefits.
- Work involves moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes and chemical vapors, biohazards, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
- Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
